Since it has been mentioned a few times at GDC and around the boards, I think it is now safe to confirm that we are going to have 6 character classes for you to customize your Commander Shepard to be as you play Mass Effect.
They are:
Soldier – Soldiers are Combat specific characters.
Engineer – Engineers are Technology centered characters.
Adept – Adepts are characters especially skilled with Biotic abilities.
Infiltrator – Characters who blend their Combat and Technical abilities.
Sentinel – Characters who balance using Biotic abilities and Technology.
Vanguard – Characters who mix their skills at Combat with their Biotic abilities.
We will have more on the different classes in upcoming updates. So stay tuned.

it-it's so beautiful. 
why no class that blends all 3?
and will certain classes be disallowed from using the other type of skills or are those just weaker then the ones they're made for? |

Wow Im so happy about this. In kotor I always had a problem chosing between scoundrel and the soldier. But this is so sweet Vanguard is the one for me thats exactly what I do blend those two attributes in. This game just has no limits its so GREAT.  |

Engineer or Infiltrator for me, I think. Though I'll probably end up playing every class for 5 hours until settling on which one I actually want, such is my history with BioWare games. |

my next request would be info. on the cross-class classes.
do they "just" contain skills from the 2 classes they draw from, or are there a few unique ones thrown in as well? |
