As we announced here: Click Here we are pleased to bring to you the first installment of the Mass Effect Downloadable Content titled Bring Down the Sky.
This thread is for discussion on the Bring Down the Sky downloadable content for Mass Effect. It is continued from part 1 here: Click Here
Many people were missing important points or just not looking through the almost 40 pages of previous comments and questions, so we're restarting the thread to make things easier to find.
A few important points: 1) Bring Down the Sky is available only through Xbox Live and costs 400 points. It is approximately 90 minutes of gameplay. It will be available in all regions on March 10.
2) Bring Down the Sky will be your first exposure to batarians in Mass Effect. You can check out 2 cool screenshots here: http://masseffect.bioware.com/gallery/
3) The DLC will take place during the current storyline. Once downloaded, you will need to access a saved game where you have access to the Normandy's galaxy map or you will need to start a new game until you reach that point.
4) There will be more DLC in the future, but we're not talking about it just yet. Stay tuned.

Wow never realized previous forum took 40 pages!!! Seems there are a lot of people out there wanting more and more of ME. Well the only questions remaining are: 1) Will the DLC contain a planet mission like Feros-Noveria-Virmire or like those uncharted worlds you landed on in your Mako. 2) Will there be any new armor sets or weapons? (unfortunately that cannot be answered due to spoilers) 3) Are we gonna be killing all the batarians or are there gonna be dialog options with those scumbags? (again due to spoilers i don't think that will be answered) 4) How big is the DLC (in mb)Edited By IoannouG on 02/11/08 17:30 |

1) It took me atleast 1 hour to do Feros. So I'm sure it's more than a sidequest. Fingers crossed.
2)I bet there is some.
3)We'll get to talk to them, why else would we need VO? _________________ i can't believe in myself-Ergo Proxy |

While I am as curious as you are IoannouG, I like the way Chris is giving nothing away. I want every second of those 90 minutes to be a surprise.
I'm with Raining Light on one point though. If this were just a "drive around in the MAKO then shooty shoot" mission, it would never last an hour and a half.Edited By bobito64 on 02/11/08 18:16 |

If I had to choose only 1 thing for DLC, it would be more unique armor. _________________ I am that which grips the heart in fright, harkens night, and silences the light. |

yea i dont want any spoilers although the things people are asking that if answered would count as spoilers will be there.
and of course we re gona be able to talk with the batarians what would be the point of adding them if you just shoot them. im guessing there will be one who isnt mean that you can talk to probably for a good while and find out about the race, and get codex entries about them.
i cant wait for it. ive been wanting new stuff for awhile since i beat it and its finally coming. well in a matter of speaking theres still a month to wait. but the less i know the better it will be since it will be a surprise. _________________ Agent N22 |

Being my first contribution to the forum I would just like to start by saying "Thank you Bioware!" I'm 26 and I've played games since my child hood Atari days. I have never been so absorbed in any work of fiction be it book, movie, or game, as I was and am with Mass Effect. Brilliant.
As for this downloadable content, I believe it sounds amazing. I'm glad to hear it's the first of many DLCs. 90 minutes is a great value for a 400 point add on, but then again, I'm biased by love for the game. To be honest, it's hard to put a time on gameplay, though you could sprint through the 90 minutes, you could also take your time and look for hidden details within the add on, that could easily take a few hours.
Last, here's an idea, Bioware said they were heavily influenced by 80s sci-fi the likes of BladeRunner for their music... wouldn't it be sweet to travel to a BladeRunner esque planet in Mass Effect where there were neon lights everywhere, everything was all broken down and dark, non stop rain, and you were on a Bounty hunter kind of mission...
I do like other people's idea of traveling to earth in a DLC as well... it was cool to see it from the moon... but how cool would it be to go visit... pretty freakin' cool. |

Going to be sweet!
I'm a little bummed I won't be able to use my first Shepard because he is my most experienced and the one I took my time with in exploring everything. But even with saving on 3 separate files I did it multiple times in the last few hours so I completely lost access to Normandy and any chance of using him. I guess I'll live though using my second play through character who is going in a much different direction (renegade) and skipping some stuff. So she won't be as experienced (or as special).
So I take it this will be the case with all future DLC and ME2? Having a special DLC or continuing save file that has access to the galaxy map? I'd like to be able to revive my original guy if possible for ME2 if you guys could find some way to use that last autosave file. If not, I guess I could just always start a 2nd run through with him and just get to the Normandy - that way he'd at least be a high level.
Thanks for the awesome space opera adventure(s)!

Is there any chance we can purchase the DLC on CD? Even if costs more or if the CD is delayed a bit, I'd still rather have something I can hold onto than use XBL.
I don't want to run into DRM issues when I need to send my XBOX back for RRoD, etc. Based on the numbers, I'm due for a RRoD sometime this year.Edited By Shurijo on 02/11/08 20:22 |

Sorry, there are no plans for a cd version. Only Xbox Live.

That shouldn't be anything other than a minor inconvenience, Once DLC is purchased, it's locked to your gamertag. You'd never have to repay for it, just spend a few mins downloading it again. One advantage to accidently getting the "Core" System back on launch day was when I sent mine back for RRoD, I didn't need to send Hard Drive. Although still a mistake looking back on it. |

Can this be confirmed by someone who's had to replace a console but kept their Hard Drive? From what I've read on other forums, ownership of DLC is typically linked to the console itself (regardless of its residence on the HDD), and there can be weirdness when you get the "new" console, in the form of XBox Live not "recognizing" that you've already downloaded it, and you have to download it again (which from what I've heard can be a problem for Silver members vs. Gold). Or maybe that's only for XBox Live Arcade titles and not for game-specific DLC like this or the add'l Bioshock stuff that came out not too long ago?
Can someone with some experience confirm or deny that?Edited By thejtrain on 02/11/08 21:22 |

My understanding is that it's linked to the console and gamertag. If you have multiple XBL accounts using the same XBOX, and you replace the console but still use the same HDD then you can only access the DLC that downloaded the game. So if you're wife, brother, etc. has a profile, they can't access it unless they sign in as you.
Here's a write up about the DRM glitch from the official XBOX magainze: Click Here
It says: "the digital-rights management ties that purchase to both your Gamertag and your console itself, on a hardware level. If your console breaks, the DRM doesn’t detach from the old hardware, and it doesn’t know how to mate with the new machine."Edited By Shurijo on 02/11/08 21:41 |
