Not sure if this has been posted before, if it has I am sorry. Will there be an official demo of Mass Effect for the PC? Would be helpful for us who would like to see what it will run like on our computers. |

I dont really need a demo to know im going to buy it, but having a demo to know if the game can run on your computer or not makes sense. |

I realy hate it, cause nobody seems to care... They gave us a few lousy ingame pics, announced the game and the..? silence, for gods sake say more! I'M sooooo pissed. I realy don't think that there is gonna be a demo! The past has shown that all big producers give a damn about demos, cause the game will sell anyway. So forget it
Especialy Bioware stopped throwing demos out.... the past games have shown that (Jade Empire.... Kotor and so many more) Concerning Mass Effect: I realy believe that ther is not going to be a demo. There was non for the X-Box... the game was a huge succes anyway, so why should they do it now? |

I doubt there will be a demo, and I'm not really worried about one to be honest. I am rather dismayed that the game is less than two months away now and there still aren't any system requirements released or news on if there's a Collector's Edition or not, even though stores already have it up for pre-order. I know they're still working on it, but... there's not much time left. |

The GDC conference goes right out and says that "old machines" will be able to run it and midrange machines will get good frame rates.

That's about as specific as a company that's having an external port done wants to get; if you want them to pump Demiurge for updates on how well things are optimizing on ATI cards, you need to pay them more Edited By Jtow on 03/12/08 13:25 |

Well, I have a GeForce 8600, so I don't really need to know about ATI cards. I'm 95% sure I'll be able to run it, but I want to be sure I also meet the recommended to run it as best as I can. |

Sorry for the double-post, but I found an article that answers this query directly without beating around the bush: Click Here
The quote in question:
One final Mass Effect comment of interest from Atwood: "No. No [PC] demo. It would slow down development if we did one." |

I think that not issuing a demo for PC is a poor move. There are many people like myself who can't afford to pick up every new game that comes out, and have a very strict gaming budget. I bought Mass Effect recently on the strength of the reviews alone - something I very rarely do. I'm pleased to say that I enjoy the game very much, and don't regret a cent of the price I paid.
But the PC crowd, with no demo and the "console RPGs can't be well written and deep" attitude will justify illegaly downloading Mass Effect for "trial purposes." That's the sort of thing that will effect sales, and you know that the almighty dollar is the real test of a game's success, not how much your fans love it. |

Hi bioware, let's make it perfectly clear: no demo, no buy.
If aurora's Witcher can have a demo, you can too. |

While I agree that it would be nice to have a demo, I also understand that a finished, well polished game is more important that a demo + a buggy game. So, if for some reason, the team decided that they have no resources for a demo, I understand. However, if the decision about this was made for commercial reason only, then I think it was a mistake.
By the way, I might be out of the loop on this, since I never owned any consoles, but wouldn't it have been just as easy for XBOX360 owners to download the pirated game for "demo" purposes as you claim it will be for PC owners?Edited By RMSe17 on 03/19/08 13:34 |

The argument of having a better polished game instead of a demo is nonsense, look at the witcher, the demo was spread out one month after the releasing of the game, look at the succes now, even DLA team is onboard.
I'm sorry to insist, but you have to consider this fact, a new game cost 60€ in France (94$).
Do you really think we take the risk of buying a game that might doesn't work for this amount of money?
and... especially since a "not to be told here" game in 2006, I won't give my money in a game without demo. |

Well, why not do this...
Rent a XBox 360 and rent ME360 for a day or two. That should be enough game time to determine if you are going to like it or not. Another option is find a review site that you trust and generally its reviewers has the same tastes that you do and wait for them to review it. If they recommend it then go for it, if not then skip it.
There are plenty of legitimate alternatives to get the info you want about a game so you can make an informed purchase. Also, this is Bioware. None of their recent games, from BG2 and on, have had demos of any sort as far as I remember. Bioware games tend to be top notch regardless of platform. Even their worse game is better than some other game companies' best. |
