Hey everyone.
We know you're clammoring for new MEPC information and we've got a juicy tidbit for you this morning.
Gamespot now has an article up about the new GUI with comments from project director Diarmid Clark. They also have 4 screenshots up. You can read the article and see the screens here: Click Here
We have added a screenshot with the Mass Effect for the PC GUI to the PC gallery. You can check it out here: Click Here
What do you think? Questions?
Edit: Changed the titles.

First of all, very nice. I instantly saw the rhyme and reason of the layout. Very intuitive
Secondly, I do have a question:-
Say, for example, I were to drag Liara's squad command of "go here" to Quick Slot #4. Now, if I were to go on another mission and choose somebody else that wasn't Liara as the first ally, would that mean that Quick Slot #4 was unusable during that mission since Liara isn't present, or will whoever is the first ally now inherit that command while they are chosen? |

it looks more cluttered than i thought, but then there's more info presented than i thought, too. does it change in size with increased resolution? _________________ "we are going to need bigger guns" http://jebelkrong.blogspot.com/ |

It could be just paused, hotkeyed or just highlighted of what info is giving for the new GUI. You should know by now BW doesn't clutter of the screen with something that is not needed during normal play. _________________ Asus M2N-E Athlon 64 X2 6400+ DCore OCZ Game X Stream 700WPS EVGA 7900GTX 512mb Vid 2Gb OCZ Plat.XTC Rev.2 PC2-6400 DDR2-800 Samsung Syncmaster 225BW 22"WS 2x WDCaviar SE16 250GB SATA2 CLabs SB X-FI Xtreme AudioEdited By AndreD on 04/08/08 21:54 |

I had the same thought. I'm always a tad concerned about how HUDs look, and on a widescreen 24" display at 1920x1200 I don't want too much screen real-estate taken up by the HUD. I've always preferred minimalist displays, maximizing the view of the world. Is all of this stuff always in the view? _________________ And I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad These dreams in which I'm dying, are the best I've ever had |

Yeah, it looks REALLY cluttered. The interface is way too big and really detracts from the action on the screen. I sincerely hope that the three abilites hotbars are optional.
That GUI looks as intrusive as any I've ever seen. Especially since you can automate your squad-members, there is no reason in the world to have those toolbars there all the time.
EDIT: Unless of course the toolbars come up only when the game is paused and then disappear once you resume. In that case, the toolbars are great, and a big improvement on the power wheel.Edited By dan107 on 04/08/08 23:51 |

On Kotaku it says it only comes up when you press the space bar. |

The quick slots are for Shepard's abilities, not for party people. So the question is kind of moot.

Correct. The default key (keeping in mind you can map keys in the PC version) is the space bar. That GUI only comes up when you press and hold the space bar.

Press and hold? Why not make it a toggle? (one press pauses and shows the menu to give orders, and another one to unpause and go back to the action) It would make both your hands free, which is much more comfortable IMHO. I find it a bit annoying when I have to press and hold a button, and so I like toggles a lot better. But maybe it's just me. |

First, thanks for the response, Chris.
Secondly, I'd prefer to have it toggled too, rather than having to keep the spacebar held down. If you're only ever using the mouse during the activation of the interface it won't be much of a problem, but if other keys are needed it could be somewhat annoying.
I remember constantly fiddling with the XBox contoller horribly whenever trying to use the biotics in the 360 version because I'd constantly be accidentally letting go of the button while trying to do something, which either resulted in having to redo the biotics or completely wasting whichever one I used because it was misaimed. |

i agree plz dont make it press and hold. That is really annoying in any game. But the Menu itself looks pretty sweet |

ah thanks for explaining that - in that case it should be excellent!
