After selecting play, the Mass Effect load screen pops up, then the game window pops up. Once this happens, the game just hands. It still is running. In fullscreen mode, the screen is black with my cursor as the hourglass, but still moveable. I cannot do anything when this happens aside from move the cursor. In windowed mode, it is pretty much the same, except I can go into task manager and end the process.
My drivers are updated and I do not have other programs running in the background. This happens even at the lowest graphic settings.
My PC:
HP Pavilion dv8000t
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600
2GB RAM

After disabling Norton, I ended up getting a general protection fault. |

I was able to remedy this by uninstalling and reinstalling the game. It does work more than once now.
My system:
Athlon 64 x2 6000+
MSI 790X MB
GeForce 8800 GTS 320
4 GB DDR2 800
Windows XP SP3
All latest drivers and BIOS updates. |

I got the same problem and I tried everything including updating sound and video card drivers. |

I was having this same problem with Vista. Eventually I just reinstalled the OS and the game works fine now (in windowed mode, full screen still doesn't). I know how people feel about reinstalling an OS, but it solved the problem for me. |

I tried reinstalling and that did not work either. I tried other suggestions brought up in other threads and still no luck. I might have missed it since there are so many of these threads, but has Bioware addressed this issue yet? I've been a fan since Baldur's Gate and I am just really disappointed. |

mine will hang for about 20 seconds but it continues on to the game eventually..how long are u waiting before u close the process?? |

Sometimes as much as 30 minutes.

Yes... I have the same problem... and I waited 1 hour before using the task manager...
I hopo Bioware realise soon a patch for that problem... |
