If you are a game owener like me one of the first things I do is completely disregard teh manual and start playing the game. So much so, I often throw out the silly thing along with the plastic wrap the game comes with (after carefully noting my cd key of course).
But then, I find I don't know as much as I thought I did.
What was that button to throw grenades again? What is the difference between an assault rifle and a shotgun? And how the heck do I repair my Mako after it goes 10 rounds with a threaher maw?
Well, if you're like me, youare now looking for some answers.
Well, fear not. Registered MEPC game owners can now download a copy of the Mass Effect PC manual right here: http://masseffect.bioware.com/manual/
And grenades is the "R" button.

Aww, I was hoping to get a sneak peak at the manual before I receive the actual game next week here in the UK. Spoilsports. _________________ Special Effects Software |

The ebgames website has a Manual download too. It does not require you to own the game, and has actual bookmarks and uses higher resolution pictures... |

That's cool that the game manual has been released digitally. Good idea. |

Thank you Netriak! Unlike the printed manual that comes with the game, the PDF file is in color! |

I get the error: "Cannot extract the embedded font 'HNUNCN+Calibri-Bold'. Some characters may not display or print correctly." And the document is unreadable.
This only happens, though, if I let Adobe Reader open the document directly in Fx. If I right-click the pdf and save it on my drive first, then open it, it works fine.
So, if anyone experiences that trouble, do the above to get it. Hope it helps. _________________ Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire. - from Schindler's List |

Here's a manual related question. Is there someplace I can learn more about some of the math going on under the hood? I wouldn't mind so much but unless I'm missing something obvious even very basic stats seem to be hidden from the player, such as my current shield level or how my trained stats compare with the "base" weapon stats. It's hard for me to know how to balance accuracy vs overheating vs damage in a weapon when I only have the vaguest idea of how each of those affect gameplay. Likewise with armor: at the risk of sounding like an idiot, what *is* damage protection? Is this some base number subtracted from all gun damage? Does it affect shields? Given that the game's been out for some time already, I assume that this information has been consolidated onto some faq-post or another webpage altogether. Anyone have any information? |

Do people really throw out their game manuals? It gives me something to look at while the game installs to keep my mind off of the awesomeness, and also helped with the in game tutorial's vehicle exit typo...N3v3r underestimate t3h p0w3r 0f t3h manual. Edited By TJX2045 on 06/04/08 17:59 |

I couldn't imagine throwing out my manuals. I have every game I've ever bought for the PC, including their boxes, manuals, media, any other inserts, etc, etc. I like reading manuals before I'll even start up the game to play (I may test the executable, but I don't play until I'm finished the manual). Having an electronic version is just easier for quick searches these days, using Find and all. _________________ Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire. - from Schindler's List |
