An EA tech told me they're aware that there is a lockup/crash problem with Mass Effect for PC, on 8800 GT's, but they haven't identified what is causing it yet.

So, I'm wondering if anyone else is successfully playing M.E. with an 8800gt and if so, what driver version, OS and system specs you may be using?

Thanks.

I just posted the same exact topic a second ago. Sorry, didn't see your post. I spoke with the tech and she told me the exact same thing. She said to try running the game at 1280x800 resolution and see what happens. I am glad I am not the only one out there.

I'm running an 8800GT and the latest Nvidia drivers (175.16) with no lockups. Occasional framerate stuttering, but no lockups.

I am running an 8800GT 512MB with the latest forceware drivers (175.16) at 1280x1024.

Game locks up when alt-tabbing, and there is some stuttering in-game (hopefully a defrag helps). But no major crash bugs yet (3 hours of gameplay).

My system specs:
Intel Q6600 OCed @ 3.3GHz
2GB G.Skill DDR2 1000 running at 900MHz
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R with latest BIOS
8800 GT 512MB latest drivers
Hercules GameTheater XP soundcard
Windows XP SP2

My story - just got the game. Running with an evga 8800gt and an e6600 core 2, with 2 gigs of xms ram.

I first tried 1680x1050, but it was basically a slide show.

I next tried 1280x1024 windowed, which ran it smoothly in terms of fps, but there was major stuttering. I can't really enjoy playing it like this.

I tried turning off/on v-sync, dynamic shadows, and hardware sound, but nothing seems to help a lot.

I am running well at the moment with 2 8800gt's in SLI (AFR2 mode) with everything maxed and 4x MSAA and 16x AF. I am running it at 1680 x 1050 on an E6750 @ 3.2ghz along with 2 gigs of Crucial Ballistix. There is a minor stutter here and there...but the are generally few and far between and usually happen when a cutscene is about to take place. Hopefully it doesn't get worse as I progress through the game.

I have a brand new BFG 8800GT, forceware version says 169.21 and I have no problems with MEPC.

resolution at 1280X1024
win XP SP2
asus m2n-sli deluxe
AMD64 X2 4200+
1.5GB RAM DDR2 800

There is a long delay if I alt-tab out and back into the game, but no worse than TF2 did originally.

e8400 @ stock, 4 gb corsair xms2 ddr2-800 at auto, dual evga 8800 GT SLI, Evga 750i SLI motherboard

only 1 general protection fault at the very start and since then haven't had any crashes in 4 hours of play.

HOWEVER, I don't think SLI is totally working yet; or its simply not being recognized by Mass Effect correctly, as only 1 of my GPUs is being put under graphics load (evga precision shows me this)

If anyone has any idea about SLI issues, let me know about your experiences.

It all depends on the resolution. I crash at anything above 1280x800 even though my comp exceeds all the specs and I can play any game on the market right now.

I have been playing at 1280x800 for 2 hours now with no crashes BUT I bought the game only to enjoy the higher resolutions

I am running ME with an 8800 GT and with everything set high I am getting good performance and frame rate, but I haven't gotten very far into the game yet, still on the intro mission. Yet I am experiencing very slow loading when first launching the game and one 'general protection fault' lockuop so far. Also the shadows look very pixelated and not smooth at all when dynamic shadows are turned on. Other than that I amliking the game and starting to get into it, hope they patxch some of this stuff soon.

I thought I might add this (though it may have no real bearing), If I alt-tab out of the game I cannot return to it - it never remaximizes.

I have an 8800GT, Vista Ultimate 64, and the latest nvidia and directx drivers. Running the .exe in Admin and XP mode. No background crap is running.

I play many games, and have never had any issues with this machine over the past 6 months, with much more intensive graphics in other games running fine.

I cannot get past the opening Normandy rooms in MEPC. I keep getting BSODs during conversations, randomly during them. No particular dialog does it. Reproduceable 5 times now.

I am using software sound.

Asus P5E motherboard. 4gb ram.

This is ridiculous. I have been a Bioware fan for a long time, but this is trying me.
