Will we be able to restart a character from the beginning of the game in Mass Effect 2? I have seen the fact that you can continue to play after the story is over to finish all the sidequests, yet does anyone know of any development of being able to restart a file like you could in Mass Effect 1? I personally do not want to have to create another file to play again. After creating 8 characters in the first game, I am running out of space on my memory drive. Thx.

I don't see why they would remove a great aspect of ME1. it'll be there.

You will of course be able to start a new game from the ME2 start point.

I think he means with all of the skills and weapons that you had when you finished.
(or is that what you meant?)

There seems to be some mis-communication in this thread. New Game+ usually means starting a new game with a character that has already beat the game once with all their gear, like in ME1 or RE5. I believe that is what the TC was asking (with the continuing after the game is over bit.) Chris's answer seems to say that you start a new character from the beginning...which I assumed would happen anyway. I think that answer needs to be clarified.

I vaguely recall someone saying that one can continue to play the game after one has completed it, open-ended like. Sorta like TES: Oblivion, I guess. I'm pretty sure that this hasn't been confirmed, though.

Edit: Haha, I just reread some articles for ME2 and found it in the "Just the Facts, Man" article. You can continue after the end credits.

Ahhh, ok my bad. The question then is:

"After finishing ME2 can I take my character and restart a new playthrough preserving that characters gear and abilities."

The short answer is no.

The reason is progression. We have been working very hard to make sure we design the abilities system to offer smooth progression into ME3 from ME2. Allowing double progression on characters makes that almost impossible. We have to have reasonable knowledge about where a character could end up finishing all content on a playthrough. We also want to offer choice of character build within specific classes.

We replaced that feature with playing after you were done because it preserves progression and allows for smoother downloading of PRC.

I can understand the logic, but I'm not sure I like the idea of being able to play after the game ends. I mean, I'm the type who would do as many sidequests as possible before the final scenes of the game. What will be left to do after the credits roll?

Will there be new missions for the post-game aside from DLC? WIll all the side planets just be empty?

I'm sure they'd be able to give us extra planets/sidequests to go over which are exclusive to a Shepard that has beaten the game.

If I had to guess there are probably quest that will only become available after the main quest is beaten. Plus ME2 looks to be more involved than its predecessor so that would make the most sense.
