Hey everyone. I purchased my copy of Pinnacle Station through EA DM. However, when I try to install it, it gives me the error:
"Mass Effect CD key not found. You must run the Steam version of Mass Effect at least once to have the CD key properly installed by Steam. Once this has happened, please try running the installer again."
So it's obvious that it's aware of the fact I have the Steam version, but it is not installing. I have the BDtS DLC and the patch installed, and have run the game multiple times.
HELP? |

I'm.. confused you can buy it from the EA store for 5 bucks. good price, i wanna get it, but first i want to get the patch worked out. i think it's installed itself, because there's a big, BIG difference that is possibly very relevant to this topic.
before the patch, the mass effect config program would display both my BDtS key AND my mass effect key. not anymore. after the patch, only the BDtS key is shown when you click on "game". |

This just reminded me of another problem I have. Someone from America gifted Mass Effect to me (I'm in Germany).
So now I have the US version of the game but can only access the german EA store. They do sell the DLC there and let me select all kinds of languages, one being English(UK).
Would that work without a problem? I don't want to spend 5 bucks on some DLC that'll give me a version or language mismatch and not install |

It'll probably work since we only developed one actual english build, but probably is about the best I can tell you since this isn't something that we tested locally. The store stuff was handled by guys at EA and I'm not fully certain what got touched and tested after it left my hands.
So in conclusion: Probably, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work. It'll probably be safer to wait for someone else to give it shot first.Edited By Jack Lamden on 08/25/09 20:03 |

That's not giving me too much faith to be honest, but I guess I can't fault you guys for that since you have zero control over EA and what they do. I'm kind of torn on buying it or not because really, how likely is it to find that exact same combination again?
A dude in Germany (or Europe I guess) with the US Steam version of the game. Not only does that have to happen, the dude has to also be willing to spend the 5 Euros I'm currently not willing to spend to try out a DLC that might or might not work and then tell me the results.
I think I'm pretty SOL here. I either bite the bullet or don't, waiting for someone else to try it doesn't really sound very viable unfortunately |

I'd contact EA about it. When Mirrors Edge DLC came out and Steam users bought it, hoping to use it, it didn't work. No fix came out, and EA offered a refund to those people.
Chances are, if it won't work, EA will refund you.
Alternatively, you could contact that friend who gifted it to you, and send him money to buy it for you ._. |

Well, I bit the bullet but now I can (obviously) not install it as I'm hitting the same bug as the bro who originally posted this thread. (Sorry for sort-of hijacking it by the way).
As Jack already said though, they're looking into that so there we go, just gotta be patient now and then time to cross my fingers again once I get past that little CD Key not found problem.
Edit: I should also mention that despite the DLC not having installed yet (due to the error) the ME Config Utility already shows its CD key along with ME and BtdS Keys so it must've done... something Edited By yarrbraxas on 08/25/09 20:51 |

i dunno what to think anymore, except i'm pretty confident that mass effect 2 will be a better experience, if only because they've learned from this. |

Why would they release something that was not tested across the board for the platform. If your going to sell your games on steam at least have the common decency to support it as well as the other delivery methods. Makes you look very amateur with no regard for your consumer base bioware. |

I'd just like to add that I'm experiencing the same issue as the OP. I have ME through steam and have the BDtS DLC and patch 1.2 installed. I get the same message when trying to install pinnacle station |

We have a potential fix for this, shouldn't be too long before it's available. |

The PRC installer that works with the steam version of the game should replace what's currently on the EA store tomorrow sometime. You would just need to redownload the PRC and attempt to install again. |
