-- Possible spoiler alert --
These are the three questions:
1. Did you kill or free the Rachni queen? 2. Who did you let die on Virmire? 3. Did you save or kill off the Council?
I opened this topic to discuss the three most important matters of choice in the game to me, and to understand what my fellow gamers decided.
What choices did you make? Why did you make them? |

1. Freed her.
It's possible she could be a evil manipulative creature bent on world domination sensing a threat from Shepard a lying her way out of things; However, that's not something Bio-Ware has done before (that I recall), so I thought she was honest enough. She was a childlike thing asking for mercy. I couldn't just kill her outright because of what she could do.
2. Varies from play though to play though. I always play a male Shepard though.
Mostly I let Ashley live because of a predisposition to protecting women, and other not so wholesome reason some times. Though I do save Kaiden sometimes because he is a useful squad mate, and saving Ashley sometimes gets me in trouble.
3. Mostly always save them.
My first impulse to let them die rather then risk not defeating "Saren" and leaving the job half done because the fleet was crippled. I do almost always save them because faced with personality types like Ambassador Udina, the council smells like roses. They're reasonable stable as they are. Though saving galactic civilization as it is know and then being treated with a trivial 'thank you' does rub me the wrong way.
By humanity's good graces they live, breath, and still have a military to speak of, and the most you can do is stop at giving us what you where going to give us anyway!? Ungrateful is one thing, but this borders on apathetic. Fan fair, honor, or reward are not required, that just reeks of a "Yea, whatever. Here, have you're treat and get lost like a good little dog" attitude to me.
Edit: Simply saying "You have done well, and this will be remembered and rewarded." would have made me smile and I'd walk off. The reward they give is more like "You merit a reward, but it's such a pitiful thing you did, you're getting a pitiful gift. Even though it's within our power to give more." _________________ Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. You'll get no disagreements here. I really wanted some more recognition from the Council! I at least wanted them to apologize for not believing our repetitive warnings that the Reapers were real, and a threat. |

1. I let her live. I couldn't bring an entire species to extinction. Look at her, she was completely helpless and she has done nothing wrong. At least not yet but that is not how you should make a decision, especially if an existence of an entire species is at question. This decision made me kinda cringe, you hold the fate of an entire species. If she does try to take over the galaxy, I will take full responsibility of my 'sin'. And I'll also make sure that she knows her idea was a BIG mistake.
2. I’ll let Kaiden die (I am still playing). It’s because in my first playthrough when I was playing I sent Ashley to fight with the salarians. That was because she volunteered, I was impressed because I thought she was a bit racist. And when Kaiden activated the nuke I couldn’t stop calling him a retard. So the decision for me was hard but it was much more clear who I should save, and that was Ashley.
3. I saved the Council. They are the leaders, without the head the rest dies. Everyday, they make so many decision that are bigger than Shepards (ok… maybe not). I liked the council, although I hated that they didn’t trust me but they had reasons.
Besides, human are new and we still have much to learn. I was surprised that we were accepted to join the council, even when I think that we have much potential compared to other species. _________________ Guy 1: Hey dude, hows ur gf? 1: I always save her. Like the first reply said, you can't kill her based on what she could do. Why not kill all criminal's children?
2: Usually Ash. Mainly because I find her backstory more interesting, and I've heard enough of Carth Onasi over three different games. the main reasons I would save Kaiden are for the achievement or because I was romancing him as FemShep |

Apologise for Double post. Since there is no delete option, I'll just answer three in this post.
3: Always save them, unless I'm playing the xenophobe who killed Wrex because he doesn't like aliens. Like in many codex entries, many of the council races could destroy the others if they had the pre-emptive strike. However, they would have more to gain if they worked with each other. If humanity is part of the council, other races might start to respect us. If it is a all-human council, they will probably detest us, especially the old council racesEdited By BlyndKwarian on 11/02/09 00:25 |

1. I let the Rachni live. I felt that the queen was being truthful about not attacking other races. Plus, if they were to attack, Shepard would be capable of annihilating the rachni race on his own! 2. I let Ashley and Wrex live on Virmire. Ashley because she was Shepard's love interest, and Urdnot Wrex because he was the best squad-mate. 3. I let the council. I felt that, even though they were in a way jerks, they would help humanity advance onto the galactic stage. I pray that they will not leave humanity high-and-dry and will help the investigation on the disappearance of humans in Mass Effect 2. |

1) I let the queen live. 2) I never cared about Kaidan so far so i let him always die. But i want to see his story once so i'll let him survive the next time i play ME. 3) Risk the fate of the whole galaxy because of a few council members? The risk is just too high so i let them die |

I have heard many people say now that they did not save the Council because they felt they could not risk jeopardizing the galaxy.
I am curious, now that we all know full well that you can save the Council without jeopardizing the galaxy, how you feel about letting them die when you could have saved them? Would you have made the same decision?Edited By Nightwriter on 11/02/09 11:42 |

No, Gravemind needs to die. However, he wants to eat you, makes no secret of the fact he wants to eat you, and most you can reason with him is to eat you later rather then now. The Queen on the other hand may be even more evil, but she tells you "I did wrong, my children do need to be put down, but I'm not evil. Mercy!" _________________ Love is patient, love is kind. The Flood is much worse. They are like a disease, more or less.
And they need organics in order to survive. And the way the need us isn't really pretty. _________________ Guy 1: Hey dude, hows ur gf? Guy 2: what? what is gf? Guy 1: You suckEdited By GoodTimes88 on 11/02/09 20:07 |

It is duly noted that Gravemind is a poor comparison to the Rachni queen. |
