You guys know you can't really make a proper list now right?
Bioware has confirmed that they're going to have downloadable characters, meaning that we don't know who is and isn't coming with the game.

Hopefully the next 4 are reserved for a salarain (which we pretty much know), a turian, asairi and batarian. If we get another human... Maybe we'll find out this week? |

Some thoughts on the downloadable characters.
Since they originally said 12 characters before the more recent 10, those two NPC’s might be downloadable. Now before you break out pitchforks and torches because of this, I’m thinking that characters in their original format simply didn’t work in ME 2’s story or caused problems to the game play. Now with extra time to flesh them out and work out all the problems, they can add them back in so you, the consumer, can meet them.
Also, I imagine any ME 1 crew that’s not a Squad mate at launch, might be one of the downloadable characters. It kind of makes sense. If their inclusion wrecks the ME 2 campaigns storyline, then you’ll likely get a dlc based solely around them.
Examples:
Garrus: The two of you work together (Kind of like Master and Apprentice) on a series of missions to either bring a criminal gang to justice, eliminate a bunch of (Batarian) terrorists, protect a Citadel VIP, and/or expose corruption (with the aid of executor Pallin) in C-Sec itself.
As you do this you get the chance to learn more about one another and grow closer as friends.
Wrex: There’s a breakthrough on the cure, and it’s looking like the Krogan will be saved. A number of beings are NOT happy about this and would rather this cure was destroyed. You have the choice to defy the councils wishes (as their smart enough not to order you to betray your friends), and help Wrex protect the future of his people. Basically you get to try and secure an entire planet from stealth infiltrations, direct assaults and eventually you must find a way to deliver a cure to all the Krogan on world.
The good news is that Wrex is in your party. With him at your back, you have a world full of Krogan ready to DIE in defense of their future.
Kaiden: Some body’s kidnapping/killing young human Biotic potentials. You and Kaiden set off to find the culprit(s) and bring them to justice.
Ashley: Now in command of an Alliance facility. She has circumstantial evidence that someone is doing illegal and immoral experiments on the colony she’s been charged with protecting. However her hands are tied by rules, regulations and good old fashioned red tape. However, no one can say a damn thing if she escorts a Specter (and a close personal friend) around the colony on a tour. If they happen to run into this operation or its agents, while heavily armed, all the better.
Of course the Epilogue for this DLC would be meeting her family….
Liara: It was just supposed to be a nice calm visit. Liara had found a major Prothean ruin and had invited you to be the first to view it and help her plumb it’s depths for any useful secrets. Sure it was on the edge of the Terminus systems but no one should’ve known about it. However that large dropship full of Geth, another one full of Batarians, and one more filled with the soldiers of a nearby warlord suggest that someone on her dig team talked. Now you’re in a three way war over control of this major find. _________________ The more he smiled and called us friends, the more tightly we clutched our purses. |

I think that the two that were cut off to reduce your squad to ten, are downloadable. I don't have a clue who they might be, but that's what I think.
Actually, on Mass Effect Wiki, they state that Clint and Legion are squad mates so there are two less positions free, according to them. One of the remaining spots has to be the romance, otherwise it would be very dumb. So if you take that in calculation, there's only one left. I think this will be a old squad member too, making the new squad mates the majority but still three characters from ME1, excluding yourself. (duh) _________________ The Netherlands For The Win!!! |

Why would a Batarian be grouped up with Humans? Or any other race for that matter? |

Why would a Batarian be grouped up with Humans? Or any other race for that matter? Why not? Most Quarians are sequestered in the migrant fleet, but we got to hang out with Tali. Most Turians are complete dicks, but Nihilus and...the mechanic on Noveria proved to be exceptions.
Batarians and humans as two peoples might not get along well, but there's no reason to assume that individuals can't work together for the greater good. Furthermore, we've indication that a lot of the game takes place in wretched hives of scum and villiany, and Batarians seem to be portrayed as fitting in with that sort of crowd. |
