This might sound like a silly question, but how do I buy Mass Effect ?
Specifically, what is the best way to buy Mass Effect ?
I want A: the cheapest price and B: all of the DLCs installed.
Should I download it over Steam and then download the DLCs separately ? (if that works)
Or should I buy the game at Wal Mart and download the DLCs separtely?
Is there a way to get the game + DLCs in one package?
Furthermore, do I need to install the latest patch ?
It seems there is a lot of confusion from the lack of official support from BioWare.
So if someone can clarify for a first time ME player the best way to buy it and get it working with all the latest patches and DLCs it would be much appreciated.Edited By Zooomer on 11/04/09 18:47 |

That works; it's pretty much like buying it from retail, you still have to install them separately then. There is no Game + DLC package that I know of (though since BDtS is a free download, the PC version essentially comes with it). If price is your decision-maker, the only question is whether you can find a retail copy for cheaper than $20 (or whatever the Steam price is for your region).

If you buy the Steam version, no (you'll get the latest version). If you buy the Pinnacle Station DLC, no (it comes with the latest patch, 1.02). Only if you buy the retail version and don't buy PS will you need to remember to also install the 1.02 patch. _________________ Refund Guy back in 2010! Okay - good to know. One more clarification: is the Pinnacle Station DLC compatible with the Steam Version of ME ?
Seems that some peeps are having problems with Steam + DLCs. |

Both DLCs did have to receive updates, but they've gotten those already. (Don't know why that was the case with PS, which came out after the Steam version had been made available, but whatever. ) The only reason to worry about the Steam version would be this thread, but 1) I'm guessing it's a problem of an update being applied over an ME install for which PS had _already_ been installed. And 2) even if this update would somehow create problems for fresh installs, Bioware has been good about fixing any issues in the past (witness the updated installers for both DLCs). Given no one else has chimed in to report the same problem yet, I'm guessing I'm right about #1. So again, if budget is your priority, I'd say you should look to see what retail prices are like (don't know myself). _________________ Refund Guy back in 2010!
